Supervision

Supervision provides professionals, practitioners, managers, teams and workplaces a contractual, supportive and developmental process to explore and learn in practicing, working and collaborating. Supervision facilitates reviewing work-related experiences, emotions and challenges and finding a new perspective on them. Supervision is offered to individuals, groups or organizations. Sometimes Supervision may be provided also via telephone or Skype.”  (Finnish supervisors' association)

 

My way of working is client-oriented; The client is an expert in their own work. I start my supervision process by going through the priorities and aiming towards a goal set by the client. My approach is gentle but sturdy, focusing on gender, sexuality, culturally sensitive, resource-oriented, solution-oriented, client-oriented subjects.

Each client is unique and the supervision processes are shaped accordingly. Here, however, is the framework I follow as a supervisor:

-I follow goals set for supervisors 

-I look at how the client implements interventions that have been discussed in previous meetings 

-I follow the clients progression

-I give feedback on the performance and personal qualities of clients practice

-I help the client in evaluating their own weaknesses and strengths

-I observe if the situation is inadvertently exacerbated by the clients own action

-I’ll solve problems with the client

-I listen to the client on how they wish to proceed with supervision meetings

-I offer options but not ready answers

-I offer proper emotional support and an opportunity for the supervised person to deal with their feelings if they feel repulsed by their customer or feel that they are relating too much towards the customer, etc.

-I work with the client to solve the problems in their organization
