Neuropsychiatric Coaching

Everything starts with trust

”Thanks to the help of enforsements (squirrels, nerves, walnuts, moles and mice), an oak sapling may sprout when conditions permit. The growing plant must be protected and also thinned. You wouldn’t suspect how large it will grow in time.”

Tammenterhon tarinoita, 2011. A. Huotari & E-L Tamski

Neuropsychiatric coaching is a guiding and goal-oriented rehabilitation method aimed at clients with specific neuropsychiatric difficulties.

The term neuropsychiatric refers to psychiatric symptoms characterized by neurological       origin.

The most well-known neuropsychiatric syndromes are ADHD(Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder) and ADD(Attention deficit disorder), Asperger syndrome and Tourette's syndrome. The concept of neuropsychiatric syndrome includes a wide variety of different types of symptoms and their manifestations. The biological factors underlying neuropsychiatric symptoms are often innate, but they can also be the result of some disability, such as brain injury patients. Some of the symptoms that are classified as neuropsychiatric may also begin in adulthood. The neuropsychiatric coaching method particularly supports the practice of inadequate operational control skills. Operational control is like "air traffic control", that is to say, the skills to do things, ie planning ability, start-up ability, ability to complete, organizational ability, and time management.

The aim of neuropsychiatric coaching is to support the everyday and life management skills of people of different ages and at different stages of life, the development of new positive practices and the building of a positive path for life. The aim of the training is to learn new ways of managing the best possible independent life. The subject of the training can be almost any aspect of life from caring for yourself and the home to a relationship.

Neuropsychiatric coaching is based on linguistic communication and requires some degree of ability from the client to observe and evaluate their own activities.

Neuropsychiatric coaching can be given by a specially trained social, health or educational   professional. Training is organized by different educational institutions around Finland. The   trainees can work as neuropsychiatric coaches either privately or in their own job, as well as in the industry as an expert and support in their work community.

Neruopsychiatric coaching can also be used to guide mental health and substance abuse rehabilitators and other children, young people and adults with inadequate management skills.

It is possible to get a commitment from a social or health care provider for neuropsychiatric training.
